Is Seeing Believing On TV?

Is Seeing Believing On TV?

The plasma screen of life is out of focus. My husband and I were late getting to a party. Although the host had given us directions, we got lost. Grab my heart and fall to the floor, John pulled into a gas station and asked for directions. What is this world coming to when a doctor with nicotine stains on his fingers gives me advice about my health and the psychic my sister hired for her party asked me what I wanted to know? Even when I see it on TV it's hard to believe that politicians swear on a Bible to uphold their office. I've looked closely. It's a Bible - not a joke book. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. My nephew was buying his first car. Without a question or kicking tires he fell in lust with a red convertible. Peter didn't even lift up the hood to see if the car had an engine. My sister told herself that it was his hard-earned money; so it was his decision - or it would have been if the used car dealer hadn't talked Peter out of the convertible and into a cheaper, sensible hybrid. Last week I fell in lust with a pair of designer sandals on sale. Unfortunately, they didn't have my size. Usually I'd have tried to squeeze my feet into a half size smaller, but no. I told myself only glass slippers were worth trying to stuff my feet into. Recently Dr. Phil added color to my TV with a program about committed relationships. One woman had met her soul mate online, but both Dr. Phil and I thought marrying a guy in prison was going too far to guarantee a committed relationship. Maybe it would be better to meet guys in bars - not behind them. Being the modern couple John and I are, we go to the same hair stylist. Because John looks at me more than I do, I asked him to pick out a different shade of blond for me - one that didn't make me look washed out. I looked in the mirror thirty minutes later and realized the washed out look was natural. What wasn't natural was the response a statuesque, blond client got when she left the salon and walked past a construction site. I didn't hear one whistle. Was I deaf or was the building located on a blind alley?

3 Cardinal Steps To Workout Safety

3 Cardinal Steps To Workout Safety

Accidents and injuries during workouts can stop dead the progress of a body building program or at least delimit the gains over a period of time. The following three steps constitute the most important steps that you should take to ensure that your workout sessions are safe and that your muscle gains are not hindered by injuries. The first of the steps involves warming up effectively before you hit the weight room. If the target for the day is three sets of ten reps for the biceps, then ensure that the biceps are thoroughly warmed up before picking up the weight. The warm up should include cardio and stretching exercises. One major importance of warm-ups is that they help raise the temperature of your body. This in turn speeds up the blood flow so as to enhance energy supply to the muscle group involved and also remove metabolic wastes instead of letting them accumulate. Experts also recommend a warm-up set of the type of exercise that constitutes the main workout so as to make the muscle group ready for and familiar with the task ahead. This set is not supposed to extend until failure and in fact it should utilize a light weight so as you exclusively focus on the motion of the muscle group and not the weight. Warm-ups help stimulate muscle flexibility and loosen up their rigidity. Working out with stiff and rigid muscles to high intensity multiplies the risk factor for injuries. During the workout, maintain your focus on the motion and form of an exercise. Many a times, a body builder emphasizes the number of reps completed or to be completed so much so that the way an exercise is being perfumed in subsequent reps totally runs amok. The object and core intent of working out is not to complete a particular preset number of reps or sets. Rather it is to fully fatigue your muscles as a means of stimulating further growth. This process of fatiguing must fully subscribe to proper form and motions not number of reps. If it takes two reps to fully exhaust the muscles, then two reps well done exceeds the gains of nine reps improperly done. When you twist and squirm during a rep, wherein you are forcing the body to complete another rep even after hitting the failure point, then you are beckoning injury. The choice of training weight is also an important factor when considering workout safety. Your aim should be choosing a weight size that makes it possible to hit at least five reps in their proper form. But the weight should also ensure that you reach absolute muscle failure within those reps. The object here is not in the amount of weight you lift but in the effect they make in the muscles. The motion should be controlled, slow and deliberate not jerks and swings. The jerks and swings are an indication that the weight is too much for you and also that injuries are just around the corner.

Seeking True Happiness by Learning and Practicing Reiki

Seeking True Happiness by Learning and Practicing Reiki

Most students of Reiki only consider the spiritual system in the context of its healing power. To be sure, there are significant health benefits for those who receive treatment. This is the reason many of the techniques are practiced in hospitals throughout the country. Under the surface, however, there is a treasure trove of opportunity for devotees to experience immense personal joy and happiness. Too often, advocates of the practice treat others while ignoring their own needs. Even as their patients experience breakthroughs in their physical and mental ailments, those who perform the healing are nearly overwhelmed by their own. It does not need to be this way. In fact, treating others effectively requires the healer to enjoy some level of happiness. Mikao Usui, the Father of Reiki, was an ardent believer in this concept. He even called the spiritual system "the secret art of inviting happiness." So, it is undeniable that students should be seeking their own personal joy through learning and practicing Reiki. The question is, how can they do so? This article will explore the issue by looking at the critical roles of self-focus and ongoing affirmation. Focusing On Yourself Tapping into the spiritual energy of the universe enables Reiki practitioners to treat the physical and emotional ailments of others. Thousands of accounts of healings that have successfully alleviated medical conditions and mental imbalances attest to this. If the universal energy can be harnessed to treat others, does it not also follow that it can be used to heal yourself? I'm often surprised by the number of advocates who have themselves become Masters, yet focus little time on pursuing their own happiness. Many seem to believe their psychic, emotional, and intuitive abilities should be focused solely on the treatment of others. While that goal is noble, it is imprudent. Healing others is most effective when the healer is happy. And that happiness is achieved by performing Reiki on yourself. Affirmation Throughout The Day Nearly all practitioners - whether Masters or beginning students - want to experience joy within their lives. Oddly, while they have immediate access to the divine energy, few take advantage of it for their own needs. The first step toward beginning to perform Reiki on yourself is by affirming your pursuit of happiness. Say to yourself, "I wish for the Divine energy to wash through me so that I may express my joy." Make this exclamation a part of your daily meditation. Spend several minutes saying it over and over, focusing on the areas in your life that require healing. Do this throughout the day to strengthen the connection between your mind, body, and the divine life energy of the universe. You'll discover that your emotional stress declines, your aches and pains grow less pronounced, and your mood lifts. The Seeds Of Physical And Mental Health When you affirm your pursuit of true inner happiness, you might notice negative emotions rising to the forefront of your mind. Don't suppress them. This is an opportunity to dispel them with Reiki energy and to enjoy healing. Let them emerge. You'll find that they evaporate as you focus the spiritual energy of the universe on those areas of your life. As you begin to experience new levels of joy, you'll also experience several side benefits. You'll be more productive throughout your day because you're unencumbered by negative thoughts. You'll also be more creative as your mind explores further than before, unhampered by fear. These are the seeds of physical and mental health. It begins with performing Reiki on yourself and realizing that your happiness is the lever that allows you to treat others.

How to Choose a Great Coffee Mug

How to Choose a Great Coffee Mug

More people drink coffee daily than any other drink, apart from water and soda. That's a lot of coffee. It's estimated that 60 per cent of the world's population drink at least one coffee a day. That means lots of coffee beans, lots of grinding, lots of peculating and lots of coffee cups! The more you drink coffee the more you begin to like it in a certain way. Some people drink it black, some white, some with milk, some with cream, some a latte some a cappuccino, the list goes on and on. As does the list of accessories, the grinders and coffee pots, the peculators, the coffee machines - but the one think that we all seem to get really personal with is our favourite coffee mug. We have different shapes and sizes, some with cartoons on, some with quotes, some are big and some are small. What ever your preference, there is a mug out there for you! Material There are lots of different materials that mugs are made from these days, including plastics, glass, and stainless steal and of course porcelain. Hybrid coffee mugs are usually made from plastics, while stainless steal is usually used as an outer shell for a protected plastic lined cup, often used as travelling cups to take a coffee to work, or to the beach. If you go for one of these mugs, make sure it has a string watertight lid too and is of strong construction. The more traditional porcelain mugs work so well as they retain heat. The down side of this is that they are no as durable, and prone to smash if knocked or dropped. Also, the do not usually come with a lid, so tend to be house or office bound mugs. Size The size for cups and mugs is based around a standard size for a single serving, which is usually 12 ounces. This tends to be the stating point for cups and mugs, which can range up to 20 ounces or even more for novelty coffee mugs. It used to be sad that if you are a coffee addict you should get the biggest mug you can, but a counter argument is that if you have a standard size mug, then you can drink more smaller freshly brewed hot coffees a day! Shape There are lots of different shapes of mugs to choose from, from the more traditional simple porcelain cup, to the heavy armour of a protected stainless steal travelling cup. Depending on size and weight, these different cups will suite different people, and offer different levels of comfort while drinking. The best thing to do is to experiment. Go on, drink come more coffee, you know you want to!

Where Did Baby Sign Language Go?

Where Did Baby Sign Language Go?

When money meets science and political correctness gets in the way, sometimes we lose sight of what we were aiming for. The evolution of Baby Sign Language is perfect example of this where an original and very useful program has evolved into something so different it doesn't even have the same function. I pose the question - why are all flocking in droves to spend money to teach our children the language of the deaf community and where did baby sign language go? Baby Sign Language research started over 30 years ago, almost simultaneously taking place in two camps, Joseph Garcia in one and Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn in the other. Joseph Garcia, as sign language interpreter, had a wide network of friends in the deaf community. He noted that the hearing offspring of signing deaf parents used signing long before their spoken language developed. Drs. Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn conducted a longitudinal study funded by the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development using a collection of baby sign language gestures that they called 'Baby Signs'. The study showed that babies taught Baby Sign Language understood more words, had larger vocabularies and engaged in more sophisticated play than non-signing babies. Parents of the babies in the study using Baby Sign Language noted decreased frustration, increased communication, and enriched parent-infant bonding. They revisited the families in the original Baby Sign Language study when the children were seven and eight years old. The children who used Baby Sign Language had a mean IQ of 114 compared to the non-signing control group's mean of 102 (Acredolo and Goodwyn, 2000). Since these early days Baby Sign Language has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. The Baby Sign Language forged ahead with these two themes, one teaching the language of the hearing impaired the other teaching the original Baby Sign Language program. There is an obvious benefit to the offspring of those who suffer from hearing disabilities. It was also clear from the original Baby Sign Language research that there were benefits to teaching baby signs to children that were not hard of hearing or otherwise at risk of developmental delay. Since the early days however the focus has changed from simple gestures of Baby Sign Language to communicating with hearing babies using the official language of the deaf community. Even the original Baby Sign Language program pioneered by Drs Acredolo and Goodwyn has evolved into teaching official American Sign Language (ASL). In fact, today, it is a challenge to find any Baby Sign Language resource that is specifically designed for hearing babies; they are all now based on adult sign language. Today, Baby Sign Language virtually exists as American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL) or Australian Sign Language (AUSLAN) repackaged with a stock photo of a baby on the front cover. Is there any benefit to teaching adult sign language to children that are not hearing impaired? Are we now focusing too much on teaching an adult sign language and losing out on the benefits that the original Baby Sign Language program offered? Acredolo and Goodwyn (2004) state: "Research has shown that signs are easiest for babies and for parents when they involve simple gestures and when they resemble the things they stand for, e.g. fingers to lips for 'eat'; arms out straight like wings for 'airplane.'" If you reinforce particular gestures and particular sounds, babies will develop their communication skills in several different modalities. There does appear to be a short period during which infants can produce more differentiated and controlled hand gestures than speech sounds, but it is a transitory phase. Is it ethical to be selling the language of the deaf community as a resource for baby's speech development? Where are the profits of this clever marketing going; rarely do they go back into the deaf community. Almost all of the marketing material for these so called Baby Sign Language products display children using these resources who are clearly pre-school age and older. There is good reason for this; the traditional sign language signs such as ASL are quite possibly too difficult for most very little hands to do. At 4 months of age a baby will not be able to make ballerina hands, finger spell the alphabet. Baby Sign Language should be simple enough to be useful for the short period of time before the child can communicate with words. This encompasses an age gap of 4 months to 30 months. The exception to this is if the child has a specific need to communicate with those who are hard of hearing or if the child is showing signs of developmental delay in which case traditional sign language would be recommended. The research was clear. The benefits of early communication with baby sign language based on simple gestures included earlier speech development, better language comprehension and less guessing games for parents. "We don't care if people want to use formal sign language, but it's not necessary," Acredolo said. Kids stop using signs as they speak more words, so the "baby signs" are meant to be temporary.

What Is In This Year As Christmas Gifts For Kids (boys)?

What Is In This Year As Christmas Gifts For Kids (boys)?

It is always a difficult decision to come up with a nice gift to give your kids for Christmas. There are so many options these days that it becomes increasingly difficult for parents and elders to decide on the one gift that they could give their youngsters. Long ago, a lack of choice used to be the main problem. But these days, the wide range of choices is making it even harder to make a quick decision. Probably one of the things that could help you decide on the right gift is to know the personal preference of the child that you are getting the gift for. You might already know their tastes and likings. You can let that be the guiding factor to help you get a gift that they would really like. Just like fashion keeps changing every year, gift ideas also keep changing on a regular basis. Last year's popular toys are no longer in vogue this year. New toys keep emerging all the time and it is up to us to learn and keep up with the changes. The boys already know what the latest craze is. They are almost always well ahead of us when it comes to trendy toys. We need to catch up with them often if we are to have the privilege of seeing them really enjoying the toys that we give them. If not, the gifts we choose for them may not excite them very much. So as parents and elders, we need to really spend sometime in learning about the latest toys. We also need to find out what particular kind of toys or games that they are specifically interested in, before getting them the gift. Boys especially these days love computers and electronic gadgets. Disney has come up with its Disney Netpal which is a NetBook computer for kids. This is a very affordable computer which would make an excellent gift for boys that have a love for computers. Although the computer is meant to hook up to the Internet, since there are a number of parental control features built into the system, it is absolutely safe for children to go online using this particular device. Being aimed specifically at the kids market, the product is priced appropriately on the lower side making it extremely affordable. So this could be one of the best gifts to give your boys and it would go easy on your wallet too. Another innovative toy that has come into the market is Mattel's Mindflex. This is a new mind control game that is based on a very new technology that is bound to excite your boys. The game involves using the mind to literally move a ball made of foam. The device actually moves the ball by monitoring the brain waves of the child and appropriately moving the ball. This increases the concentration ability of the child dramatically and has a number of practical applications in enhancing behavioral traits in growing children. The Mindflex would make an excellent gift for young boys this Christmas. It would keep them thrilled for hours on end during this festive season. And then you have the ever popular video games that almost all boys love. The games are so engrossing these days that they can keep children busy for days together. There are role playing games that can be played together in a group. The graphics and realism portrayed in these games are exceptional. So whatever type of gift you choose for your kids this Christmas, make sure it is at least similar to the gifts mentioned above so that your kids can have the time of their life during this festive season. In case you are having problems getting you hands on the toys, because they are out of stock, you may want to bookmark the MyGiftAlert site for products listed on Amazon. MyGiftAlert monitors up to 6 Amazon sites for you. When the product becomes available it will send you an immediate audio alert and open up the product page automatically for you.

Do You Talk To Talk Radio?

Do You Talk To Talk Radio?

Maybe it's because I grew up in a house full of women, but I'm a talk radio junkie. Music channels don't sooth my savage beast. Music doesn't quiet my thoughts - no matter how loud it is - even teenager loud. I want a combination of news, weather, interviews and humor. A little bit of sugar helps medicine go down and humor makes it possible to swallow a lot of the news. I can't sit still long enough to read newspapers. Unfortunately, for the newspaper business I'm not the only one. I don't watch TV news because it's appointment TV. There's no point TIVO'ing news because it wouldn't be new when I watched it. Yes, talk stations have as many ads as TV stations do; but they're less annoying in a talk format. Marconi's invention, on the other hand - the one occasionally holding a Walkman - can go with me to the gym. It's with me when I'm showering, cleaning the house and doing errands. I want to listen to informative discussions between hosts and experts. I also want hosts to spark call-ins from listeners, but to make that spark burn hosts can't suck all the oxygen out of the air time by dominating the conversations. Their job is to inform - not reform. If I wanted to listen to rant, I could put my mother-in-law on speaker phone when she called. The majority of hosts are conservative, which is fine with me. I like to be challenged. In my twenties I was a left-wing liberal. Now I'm a moderately conservative independent. I still want to save the world - I just want to do it more conservatively. Like TV, radio programs are rated. Low ratings mean low job security. When a station fires a host, it's like the host is beamed up by Scottie, never to be heard from again. I hate it when that happens. Because I've built a relationship with a host, it's like a funeral without a body. Sometimes, however, through the miracle of modern technology, I discover hosts have been born-again on other stations. Talk radio is my friend. It's company I don't have to talk to. It's company I can disagree with without offending. It's company I don't have to clean up after. Listening to other peoples' problems puts mine in perspective. For me it's newsworthy to be reminded even presidents and rock stars have mothers-in-law.

And really great thing with this technique is that you can easily dominate keyword phrases that aren't even for your own products! The first time I followed this technique for somebody else's product I was definitely shocked. You see, I did it for a keyword phrase where I wanted people to find my website instead of my competition. Well, it worked once, and now I "steal" traffic from my competition all the time by following this one tip. Hey, business is business right? If your competition isn't going to optimize for their keyword phrases, then I think you deserve to go ahead and snatch their own business from them! O.K., so you want to know exactly how you can start getting #1 search engine rankings for various keyword phrases across the web. Well, surprisingly you can do this through a concept that you have already heard of, that being video marketing. But it's what you do with your video marketing that counts. You see, people that simply do what we call a "video blitz" can find their videos on the top of the search engines even faster. Here's how this video blitz works: First, you pick a keyword phrase that you want to dominate. Now, when picking your keyword phrase, you want to make sure that you pick a phrase that isn't to competitive. For example: This technique would never work for a phrase such as "internet marketing." But it may work for a less competitive phrase like "internet marketing for beginners." You will just need to do a little bit of research to discover a bunch of the "less competitive" keyword phrases that are out there so that you can easily dominate them. After you have your keyword phrase in which you would like to dominate, you then need to just maybe create a couple of short videos discussing that topic. Title the video so that you use your target keyword phrase along with similar keyword phrases. Also, make sure that your tags have your target keyword phrase in them along with those other similar keyword phrases that you have discovered. Once you have your video, with the keyword rich title, and your tags, then it is time to start the "video blitz." The video blitz is actually really easy to do. There is software available that will allow you to easily upload your videos to multiple sites at once. The software I use allows me to send my videos to over 40 video sharing and social networking sites by following a few simple steps. After you submit your videos to these many sites, you then wait. Sometimes after a few hours you may already have decent rankings, and almost 100% of the time, within 48 hours you can find one of your videos on the front page of Google for your target keyword phrase. If your videos haven't made it the front page of Google in 48 hours or less, then you have likely failed to target a less competitive keyword phrase. This whole video blitz process is one that you can do over and over again for multiple keyword phrases. Once you have dominated your most coveted keyword phrases, then you'll find more and more keywords that you will decide to dominate. By sticking with this method, you can start getting tons of free traffic to all of your websites!
